Housed in the former 100 year old 1910 Merchants Bank building, the Halifax Historical Museum exhibits depict local history beginning in 5,000 BC with the Timucuan Indians, the Seminole Native Americans and includes the Civil War, Victorian Era and up to the present day. There is a Racing Zone that covers beach/road racing in Daytona Beach, Ormand Beach and Daytona Beach Shores. The War Zone covers World War I & II in Daytona Beach, FLorida. Grandma's Attic contains vintage clothing and toys for children. Visitors are treated to a 20 minute movie that covers 130,000 years of history in the Halifax Area. Extensive vintage photo and document archives are available in the Museum for research. There is also a Gift Shop selling books on local history, china, crystal and other donated items.

The Museum, opened in 1946 as a living monument to creative freedom and the service of World War I and II veterans, is located in a lush four acre urban garden oasis. Along with art classes and garden programs, the Museum hosts six to seven professional art exhibitions each year featuring a variety of style and media. Admission is free, and a $2 donation is requested.

The annual SMA conference attracts more than 300 museum professionals, board members, and volunteers from a wide variety of small museums.
